S&P 500 Futures: No Happy Face For The Markets

Chart courtesy of @Chicagostock $ES_F Monday’s close <3D pivot resumes negative momentum/trend. Turn around Tuesday? Tuesday’s 3D pivot range above the market to provide overhead resistance for sellers to defend, buyers to overcome.

After trading weaker in the overnight session, the S&P 500 futures opened Monday’s trade at 2731.25. The first move after the 8:30 AM CT bell was up to an early high at 2734.75 in the first fifteen minutes, before waves of sell programs hit and pulled the benchmark index futures down to 2706.50 for the mid-morning low at 9:30. After a rally back up to 2719.75 for the mid-morning high, the ES then turned lower once again, dropping down to 2686.50 for the late morning low just after 11:00, and then rallied to 2698.50 for the late morning high.

The early afternoon saw a move back down to 2683.75, followed by a bounce up to 2698.50, before falling back to 2681.50 at 1:15. Finding buyers there helped propel the S&P’s up to 2703.00 early in the final hour, but then as the MiM came out showing $1 billion to sell, the ES has drifted back down to 2684.00. From there, the futures rallied to print 2692.75 on the 3:00 close, and settled the day at 2696.50, down -46.50, or -1.70%.

Daily HotSpots

HotSpots are times during the market trading session that for the past XX days have consistently moved in one direction or the other. These HotSpots are published each morning pre-market. The next day, a results post is also published and weekly a summary post.

CAUTION: This data is under development and provided only for research and teaching purposes

If you have questions about HotSpots you can contact us at info@mrtopstep.com.

Lookbacks:

The lookback period (number of days) is set at 21,13,11,8 and 5 days. A heat-map is generated for each of these lookback periods, the best trade from day is scored.
The period of time that has consistently produced the best results becomes the hotspot for that look back. There are also different look-back types like Taylor and Taylor Plus.
Taylor cycles are usually 3-day cycles. A Taylor-5 look-back would use the last 5 trading days skipping back by 3 trading days. Taylor Plus uses calendar days so weekends and none
trading days are counted as part of the skip count. If a lookback period falls on a none trading day, it is not used so a TaylorPlus will continue skipping back until 5 trading days are found for the heatmap calculation.
