This Afternoon, the S&P/ASX Index closed 0.6 per cent higher at 6675 points on Monday in what was the fifth consecutive session advance for the benchmark.
A gain of 10 points tomorrow would push the index above the nine-month high recorded on November 25 and into a positive year-to-date position.
Strong iron ore prices lifted the mining sector. Fortescue Metals Group added 3.8 per cent to close $42.39 and BHP added 2.1 per cent to close at $42.39.

The US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has passed a bill that approves the establishment of a national uranium strategic reserve.
The new bill, which will almost certainly pass the whole US Senate because it has bipartisan support, excludes any Chinese or Russian company involvement in supplying uranium to the stockpile.
But Australia, which already supplies uranium to American utilities, will almost certainly benefit from the US move, both in terms of uranium sales and exploration efforts in US.
Outgoing US President Donald Trump earlier this year announced that the US would spend US$1.5 billion a year for 10 years to establish the reserve.
However, that sum has been reduced to US$150 million but will be used through to next September to initiate the reserve program and fund work on advanced reactor planning.

Across Asia, China and Hong Kong stocks fell on Monday, dragged down by financials, due to worries over heightened Sino-U.S. tensions, though upbeat trade data narrowed losses.
The CSI300 index fell 0.8% to 5,026.10 at the end of the morning session, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.7% to 3,421.85.
The Hang Seng index dropped 1.7% to 26,382.06, while the Hong Kong China Enterprises Index lost 1.8% to 10,437.22, after sliding 2.2% and 2.3%, respectively.
Leading the decline, the CSI300 banks index dropped 2.6%, while the Hang Seng financials index 2.2% by midday break, on track for its worst session since Oct. 30.
The United States is preparing to impose sanctions on at least a dozen Chinese officials over their alleged role in Beijing’s disqualification of elected opposition legislators in Hong Kong, according to three sources, including a U.S. official, familiar with the matter.
