The Australian sharemarket advanced 0.3 per cent to 7417.3 on Monday, supported by a strong session for the consumer discretionary and energy sectors.
Pendal Group rebounded from its heavy decline on Friday, jumping 7.8 per cent to $5.39 on news that James Evans has retired as chairman and will be replaced by Deborah Page.
Adbri jumped 7.2 per cent to $2.99 after extending its quicklime supply agreement with Alcoa.
The omicron variant added renewed stress to global supply chains through the busy holiday season, but signs of improvement in the US and Europe indicate the bottlenecks may soon be past their peaks, according to Bank of America.

Enterprise property management platform provider AssetOwl (ASX: AO1) is working on several new features and upgrades for its Pirsee real estate inspection platform ahead of its planned rollout in Victoria and entry to other markets on the east coast.
In an operational update, the Perth-based company reported 40 real estate agency clients are now licensed to use its inspection management software – 38 Western Australian agencies and two in Victoria. Seven of these agencies are paying customers.
Based on its licensed customers, AssetOwl estimates that 17,440 WA properties under management are utilising the Pirsee platform which is about 11% of the state’s addressable market.

Japan’s Nikkei share average rose on Monday, as a sustained rally in oil lifted energy shares, while chipmakers followed their U.S. peers higher.
The Nikkei (.N225) gained 0.69% to 28,318.54 as of the midday break, rebounding after touching its lowest intraday level since Dec. 6 on Friday at 27,889.21.
About 10 stocks advanced for every one that fell on the benchmark index. The energy sector led gains with a 2.53% jump.
The broader Topix (.TOPX) added 0.42%. The Topix growth share index (.TOPXG) added 0.28%, after dipping to its lowest intraday level since mid-August at the end of last week. The value index (.TOPXV) gained 0.55%, and touched its highest intraday level since late September.
