The ASX 200 jumped 1.1% to its highest ever close of 7386.4. The major miners, banks, and retail conglomerates powered ahead.
All three major US stock indexes added to their previous session’s advance, placing them within 1% of their all-time closing highs. US futures were narrowly in front and pointing to more gains tonight, with the E-mini for the S&P500, Nasdaq, and Dow each up 0.1%.
Zip Co shares closed 7.8% lower at $6.99 even after it more than doubled revenue and transaction volumes for the quarter. BNPL rival Afterpay was also subdued.
BHP has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s Tesla, the world’s biggest electric car maker, to supply the nickel needed in its batteries. Shares in BHP rose 3.1% to $51.45.
Victorian COVID case numbers rose to 26, while NSW numbers climbed to 124, and SA has two new cases. Queensland will close the border to the rest of New South Wales from 1am Friday.
