The state planner is stepping up efforts to keep a lid on domestic coal prices to avoid more power shortages this summer.
The National Reform and Development Commission (NDRC) this week ordered agents who sell coal to power plants above price caps imposed last month to return the excess funds.

Bitcoin has inched back down towards the closely watched level of US$20k to US$20,350, while Brent crude has shaved 3% off its price in the last couple of hours, trading now at US$111 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Bloomberg last night, Tesla troublemaker Elon Musk said the US recession was ‘inevitable’ and would probably come soon.
Besra Gold (ASX:BEZ) says the latest assay results from its Jugan project in the Bau goldfields of Sarawak, Malaysia, show the potential for stand-alone open-pit development.
Besra controls a 97.8% interest in the Bau Gold Project and has identified total resources of 72.6Mt at 1.4g/t gold for 3.3Moz of gold across a number of deposits – including Jugan.
The last two batches of drilling returned:
- 63m at 1.9g/t from 19m to 82m, including 11m at 3.5g/t from 41m to 52m (JUDDH-91);
- 36m at 1.2g/t from 33m to 69m, and 7m at 1.2g/t from 15m to 22m (JUDDH-92);
- 26m at 1.7g/t from 4m to 30m (JUDDH-93); and
- 6m of mineralisation including 6m at 1.5g/t from 0m to 6m, 5m at 1.9g/t from 8m to 13 m, and 14m at 1.1g/t from 55m to 69m, 21m at 1.8 g/t from 72m to 93m, 11m at 3g/t from 95m to 106m and 9m at 1.7g/t from 114 to 123m (JUDDH-94).

Indian shares fell more than 1% on Wednesday, with the metal index plunging over 4%, while global investors remained concerned over monetary tightening policy and recession fears.
The NSE Nifty 50 index (.NSEI) fell 1.09% to 15,468.5, as of 0543 GMT, while the S&P BSE Sensex (.BSESN) dropped 0.9% to 52,026.81. Both indexes had clocked their best session in three weeks on Tuesday.
India’s 10-year benchmark yield was down marginally to 7.42%, from its previous close of 7.48%.
