On the ASX, the healthcare and financial sectors led the laggards today, while mining and energy led the winners.
Most major miners were trading higher on the back of rising iron prices after Chinese banks slashed a key interest rate on Friday.
Germany on Friday became the latest country to report sky-high inflation, with the country’s producer prices soaring by a record 33% in April, as energy prices surged by 87% from a year earlier.

Archer Materials (ASX: AXE) has been granted an Australian patent for its 12CQ (one-two-see-que) quantum computing chip technology.
It is the only ASX-listed company and one of a few players in the world developing quantum bit (qubit) processor chip technology in the semiconductor industry.
The patent protects a proposed qubit processor chip which offers a path to realise practical quantum computing and provides Archer with exclusive and legally-enforceable commercial rights to the invention in Australia.
It prevents other companies from manufacturing, using or selling the technology in Australia, and is a requisite for future commercialisation opportunities.

Japan’s core consumer inflation in April exceeded a central bank target of 2% for the first time in seven years, but only thanks to rising import costs, not the strong domestic demand that the central bank has been trying to kindle.
Still, the 2.1% rise in the core consumer price index (CPI) announced on Friday reinforces market scepticism that the Bank of Japan (BOJ) will maintain its ultra-loose monetary policy, especially since households are suffering rising costs without substantial wage growth.
The core CPI data excludes prices of volatile fresh food but not energy, which has galloped higher because of the war in Ukraine. So have costs of other commodities, which affect prices of non-fresh food, another driver of the lift in inflation.
