Australian shares are set to edge higher with tech stocks advancing in New York.
ASX futures were up 13 points or 0.2% to 6767 near 7am AEDT. The currency was 0.5 per cent higher.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq, on the other hand, hit an all-time high for the fifth consecutive session. At 3.09pm the Nasdaq was up 0.3 per cent. The Dow was up 0.1 per cent, and the S&P 500 was little changed.
The NYSE FANG+TM index, which includes the core FAANG group of stocks, rose 1.4%; it reached an all-time high in early trading before slightly easing.
“There is too much market noise for US stocks to continue to their rally into uncharted territory,” Oanda’s Edward Moya said in a note.
“The reflation rally is taking a timeout as Wall Street digests small earnings results, consistent Fed speak, and on hopes that Biden’s stimulus deal appears poised to get done by mid-March.”
Bitcoin surged above $US48,000 earlier. It was up 10.4 per cent to $US47,325 at about 5.40am AEDT, on bitstamp.net.

In 2020, EV sales surged 38 per cent despite a decline of 20 per cent in total car sales.
3.24 million new battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) were sold compared to 2.26 million in 2019.
(Tesla accounted for nearly one quarter of electric car sales worldwide in 2020. Just FYI.)
Research firm Canalys says 2021 looks even better.
“Electric vehicles represented almost 5 per cent of all new car sales in 2020,” it says.
“EVs are forecast to reach over 7 per cent of new car sales worldwide in 2021 — a further 66 per cent growth — to exceed 5 million units sold.
“The number of EVs sold will rise to 30 million in 2028, and EVs will represent nearly half of all passenger cars sold globally by 2030.”
