Australian shares are poised to open higher, after Wall Street ended its week on a modestly positive note with investors continuing to position for a slower pace of US interest rate rises starting next month.
ASX futures were up 24 points or 0.3 per cent to 7192.
The local currency slipped 0.2 per cent, holding below US67¢. Investors are waiting a speech by RBA governor Philip Lowe – Price Stability, the Supply Side and Prosperity – at the 2022 Annual CEDA dinner in Melbourne on Tuesday.
On bitstamp.net, bitcoin was down 0.4 per cent to $US16,558.
On Wall Street, shares edged higher heading into their weekend as utilities paced nine the S&P 500’s 11 industry groups higher; energy tracked oil lower.
A week of hawkish comments by US Federal Reserve policymakers failed to significantly dent expectations among investors that a rate pivot is pending.

Green hydrogen is all the rage right now but there are still several hurdles on the pathway to commerciality – ones that Pure Hydrogen believes it is ready to clear.
The key to Pure Hydrogen’s (ASX:PH2) belief lies in the use of the hydrogen processing philosophies known as emerald and turquoise hydrogen, which are designed to produce the green gas with very low or no emissions without the controversy of using carbon capture and storage like blue hydrogen.
Emerald hydrogen uses wood waste as feedstock, first igniting the feedstock then retracting the air injection point to gasify it to produce hydrogen and a solid waste product.
Meanwhile, turquoise hydrogen uses methane pyrolysis – also known as methane decomposition – to create hydrogen and valuable solid carbon products from methane without CO2 emissions.
Power for the latter process, which uses technology from French company Plenesys, will come from renewable energy – further reducing or even eliminating its greenhouse gas emissions.
That this process could produce a high percentage of graphene is a bonus that could improve the economics of any turquoise hydrogen projects.
