Now that certainly doesn’t happen too often.
Geoscience Australia said the 3.8-magnitude quake struck 3km deep in the northern suburb of Sunbury at 11.40pm on Sunday.
While many people were woken by tremors, there’s been little or no damage, and no injuries.

The Australian sharemarket is set to rally at the opening bell on Monday, after warring political factions in Washington DC finally reached a deal to raise the US debt ceiling, ending a months-long deadlock that spooked both Wall Street and local equities.
Futures indicated that the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 will be up 1 per cent before confirmation on Sunday that US President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy agreed on a tentative deal to raise the federal $US31.4 trillion ($48.1 trillion) debt ceiling, potentially averting an economically destabilising default. They still need to succeed in passing it through Congress.
Wall Street will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day, making the ASX the second stock market in the world, after New Zealand, to react to the US debt deal. The price of bitcoin rallied to $US41,655 at about 11.05am AEST from $US41,218 before the news was announced.
US stocks finished higher on Friday as the technology-heavy Nasdaq extended its five-week positive streak, up 2.1 per cent, fuelled by a 27.5 per cent surge in the past week to artificial intelligence company Nvidia’s share price. The Dow Jones added 1 per cent and S&P 500 rose 1.3 per cent.

BLAZE MINERALS (ASX:BLZ)
The mass emigration of Aussie explorers into Canadian lithium isn’t slowing down. The latest to take the long trip north is former shell BLZ, which is buying the 340sqkm greenfields North Spirit lithium project in Ontario.
North Spirit is 30km along strike from the 50Mt PAK and Spark projects, where owner Frontier Lithium (TSX.V:FL) recently pulled up an eyewatering 398m @ 1.88% Li2O1, including 23m @ 3.12% Li2O2 in one drillhole.
It is also in the same neighbourhood as recently listed Patriot Lithium (ASX:PAT).
BLZ says initial work will target pegmatites “which compare favourably to 2001 results of Frontier Lithium’s PAK deposit”.
2001 results? Yeah, we’re not sure either. (We asked the company for clarification but they didn’t get back prior to deadline.)
The acquisition will cost BLZ an initial $100,000 cash and $550,000 worth of shares (55m shares at 1c). The company will then pay an additional $2.65m cash and $5.95m shares in staged payments right up to the release of a mining feasibility study.
