USDA: 83% of U.S. corn, 60% of soybeans planted

The USDA says the national corn and soybean planting paces advanced last week, but remain significantly slower than normal. Some key U.S. growing areas did see a drier weather pattern, with rain in many forecasts for parts of the Midwest and Plains this week. As of Sunday, 83% of corn is planted, compared to the five-year average of 99%, and 62% has emerged, compared to 93% on average, and in the first rating of the year, 59% of the crop is rated good to excellent, 18% less than this time last year.
