Frequently asked questions
What time does the stock market open and close?
The NYSE opens at 9:30 a.m. ET and closes at 4:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
Is the NYSE closed on holidays?
All NYSE markets observe U.S. holidays with either full or partial closings.
Is the NYSE open on Thanksgiving Day?
The NYSE is closed on Thanksgiving Day – Thursday November 24, 2022.
Is the NYSE open on Black Friday?
The NYSE closes at 1pm ET on Black Friday – Friday November 25, 2022.
Is the NYSE open on Christmas Day?
The NYSE closes at 1pm ET on Black Friday – Friday November 25, 2022.
The NYSE may also be closed due to unforeseen circumstances, such as technical/system failures, extraordinary market volatility, natural disasters, wars, and more.
For example, if a President of the United States dies, then the NYSE will select a day of mourning (typically the day of the funeral) to be closed. This occurred in 2018, when President Trump declared the market closed on December
5, 2018 to mourn the passing of President George H.W. Bush.

The NYSE and NYSE MKT are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. ET to 4:00 p.m. ET. The stock market is open all year during these regular trading hours, except for closings on certain NYSE holidays, and partial holiday closures
at 1 p.m. ET.
