NYSE Holidays

The NYSE holidays calendar details the days and times the stock market is closed throughout the year, such as on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas. We cover all holidays and stock market closings in 2024.

The NYSE may also be closed due to unforeseen circumstances, such as technical/system failures, extraordinary market volatility, natural disasters, wars, and more.

For example, if a President of the United States dies, then the NYSE will select a day of mourning (typically the day of the funeral) to be closed. This occurred in 2018, when President Trump declared the market closed on December 5, 2018 to mourn the passing of President George H.W. Bush.

The NYSE and NYSE MKT are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. ET to 4:00 p.m. ET. The stock market is open all year during these regular trading hours, except for closings on certain NYSE holidays, and partial holiday closures at 1 p.m. ET.

Orders can be entered and will be queued until the Opening Auction at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Core Trading Session: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET

The NYSE conducts two daily bond auctions – an Opening Bond Auction at 4:00 a.m. ET and a Core Bond Auction at 8:00 a.m. ET. Orders not executed in either auction become eligible for continuous trading immediately after the auction.
