S&P 500 Futures: #ES Up 1.4%

When news broke that lawmakers have been negotiating an agreement to fund the government through September, including almost $1.5 billion for president Trump’s border wall, it seemed like there was a possible breakthrough. Then the President said he wasn’t satisfied with a bipartisan border-security deal, but didn’t rule out ultimately signing the resulting legislation, which will avoid another government shutdown beginning this weekend.

During Tuesday nights Globex session, the S&P 500 futures (ESH19:CME) printed a high of 2730.25, a low of 2705.50, and opened Tuesday’s regular trading hours at 2726.75. The morning low print was 2726.00 right after the bell, and the morning high came in at 2742.25. The S&P’s traded 2741.50 on the 10:30 European close, and 2741.50 going into the noon hour.

The early afternoon saw a low of 2741.50, a high of 2748.00, and a print of 2744.25 going into the final hour of the day. The futures continued to rally heading into the close, and traded 2743.00 on the 2:45 cash imbalance reveal, then printed 2744.00 on the 3:00 cash close, and settled the day at 2745.25 on the 3:15 futures close, up +37.00 handles, or +1.36%.

In the end, the overall tone of the ES was strong. In terms of the days overall trade, volume was a little light, with 1.3 million futures contracts traded.
