Australian shares are poised to open higher with futures reversing earlier losses as a tech rally gathered pace in New York. After having surged to 5 per cent, the yield on the US 30-year bond plunged; it was at 4.86 per cent near 4pm in New York.
ASX futures were up 28 points or 0.4 per cent to 6938 near 6.50am AEDT.

- In New York: BHP +0.2% Rio -1.4% Atlassian -0.4%
- Tesla +5.9% Apple +0.7% Amazon +1.8% Microsoft +1.8%

“US stocks are higher after the bond market sell-off cooled off and following softer private payrolls data,” Oanda’s Edward Moya said. “Wall Street is looking for any signs that the labour market is cooling and a big miss with the ADP report was somewhat embraced.”
After surging more than 12 per cent higher the previous session, the VIX was 7 per cent lower late.
Still, CNN’s Fear & Greed Index was holding in ‘extreme fear’ territory again, at 19 near the closing bell in New York. A month ago, it was solidly in ‘greed’ territory at 58.

On Tuesday, Tassie’s quiet achiever – the medicinal cannabis cultivator and manufacturer ECS Botanics (ASX:ECS) – revealed it secured a stunning five-year, $24 million deal to supply Perth-based MediCann Health with its top (medicinal cannabis dried flower) strain.
The deal builds on the existing two-year contract and expects to deliver over four tonnes of dried cannabis flower over five years. The highlights:
- Binding agreement secured with MediCann Health to supply $24 million of medicinal cannabis dried flower
- Supply will commence in January 2024 with over four tonnes of dried cannabis flower to be delivered over five years
- Under the agreement, ECS will supply two ECS strains of GMP medicinal cannabis dried flower exclusively to MediCann
- Builds on existing two-year contract highlighting the strong demand for ECS flower, the benefit of the recent capacity upgrades and ECS’ strong foundations as a globally competitive business
Both ECS and MediCann expect the volumes ordered under the Offtake Agreement to exceed the minimum annual volumes.
