Across markets

Australian shares were set for a muted open. Tech shares were higher in New York, paced by Tesla, though it wasn’t enough to keep US markets in positive territory. US bond yields rose.

ASX futures were down 17 points or 0.2% to 7267 near 7am AEST.

  • On Wall St: Dow -0.6% S&P -0.4% Nasdaq -0.1%
  • In New York: BHP +0.4% Rio -0.7% Atlassian +0.7%
  • Tesla +4.7% Apple +0.1% Amazon -0.6% Meta +1.3%

The local currency slumped more than 1.3 per cent; the Bloomberg dollar spot index was 0.7 per cent higher.

On bitstamp.net, bitcoin was 0.3 per cent lower to $US25,708 at 7.04am AEST.

The yield on the US 10-year note rose 8 basis points to 4.26 per cent at 4.50pm in New York.

Morgan Stanley strategist Michael Wilson is holding fast to his view that US equities are overvalued, and he also thinks there is far too much optimism about the outlook for the US economy.

“In late cycle environments, it’s very typical for investors to swing back and forth between soft and hard landing outcomes,” Mr Wilson said in a note.

“The rally in some of the major averages over the last few weeks may have investors feeling a bit better again but given the underlying weakness in breadth and in some of the more cyclical parts of the market, we think that optimism should be faded.”

Sprintex has completed testing, validation and benchmarking for its innovative new G26 (25kW) stand-alone turbo-blower designed for wastewater aeration and industrial applications.

The company develops and manufactures clean air compressors for use in a wide range of applications, including combustion engines superchargers, hydrogen fuel cells and wastewater treatment.

Back in July, Sprintex (ASX:SIX) raised $1.3m to purchase production equipment and parts inventory for its recently completed range of e-compressors and industrial blowers, with the aim of accelerating the rollout of initial production at 15,000 units a year to meet the expected increase in global demand for clean energy technology.

The new G26 turbo-blower certainly stands out for energy efficiency.
