S&P 500 Futures: Small Drop Leads To Late Uptick
Chart courtesy of Stewart Solaka @Chicagostock – $ES_F Dear robots, You teased buyers all week, rallying up to 2900 then pulling the rug from underneath. Screw them some more by opening cash above and forcing them to pay up… Globex is the time to do it!
During Wednesday nights Globex session, the S&P 500 futures (ESM19:CME) printed a high of 2900.00, a low of 2890.00, and opened Thursday’s regular trading hours at 2898.00.
The first move after the 8:30 CT bell was a quick drop down to 2891.50. From there, the ES back and filled up 2897.50, then just after 10:30 a series of sell programs triggered, dropping the futures down to a new low at 2885.25.
After some more back and fill up to 2891.75, the ES again began to drift lower, falling short of the low by just 3 ticks. Once the selling pressure died out, the futures turned higher, and when the 2:45 cash imbalance reveal came out showing $193M to buy, the ES was trading at 2890.75. From there the futures went on to print 2892.25 on the 3:00 cash close, and ended the day at 2891.50 on the 3:15 futures close, down -3.00 handles, or -0.10%.
In the end, despite some small sell programs the overall tone of the ES was firm. In terms of the days overall trade, total volume was on the low side, with 968k futures contracts traded.
