S&P 500 Futures: The Bull Is Alive And Well

You just can’t keep this market down. After making a new all-time high at 2855.50 on Wednesday, and then falling 30 handles, the ES rallied over 20 handles off the lows. Yesterday, the ES sold off down to 2846.25 at 8:23 am, and then traded 2829.00 on the 8:30 futures open. From there it upticked a little, sold off down to 2842.00, and then rallied up to 2847.00 before dropping down to 2833.76.

After the early low, the ES made a sequence of lower highs, took a few stabs above the vwap, and then traded up to 2847.75. During a CNBC interview, President Trump called for a stronger dollar, and said that the weak-dollar comments by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin were misinterpreted. The dollar firmed up and the ES sold off down to the early lows of the day at 2832.75, and then down to the low of the day at 2830.75.

The ES short covered into the close as the MiM went from over $200 million to buy to $630 million to buy, and traded up to 2640.00 at 2:56. On the 3:00 cash close the ES traded 2839.75, down 1 handle, or -0.02%, and went on to settle at 2841.00 on the 3:15 futures close.
