S&P 500 Futures: S&P Jumps After Chinese Vice Minister Agrees To Meet With US Treasury Department To Discuss Trade Issues On Aug. 22

After falling on Wednesdays, close the S&P 500 futures jumped higher on Globex when a headline hit the tape saying China had agreed to meet in the US on August 22 to discuss trade / tariff issues. After making a high at 2837.25 on Globex, the ES traded 2835.00 on the 8:30 CT open. From there, the futures traded up to 2839.00, pulled back four handles down to 2835.00 a few minutes after the open, then shot up to 2851.75, up +36.50 handles on the day, at 11:24.

The afternoon saw a sideways to lower trade, and MOC orders began to stack to the sell side as the ES reached an afternoon low of 2838.50 just before printing 2842.50 on the 3:00 cash close. The 3:15 settlement was 2845.25, leaving the ES up +24.00 handles or +0.85%.
